In-School Programs

Kansas City Rep offers many educational programs designed specifically to meet academic and arts curriculum goals.

Recognizing the unique creativity and learning styles of students, we provide programming that incorporates multiple learning and teaching styles that enhance thinking skills and encourage creative and positive self-expression within an artistic/academic context.

While all programs are developed using age-appropriate curricular models, each can be adapted to serve students of all ages and abilities.

Additional programs can also be developed to suit your specific educational needs. Call our Director of Education and Community Programs at 816-235-5708 or email educate@kcrep.org to design a program for you.

  • Rep on the Road

Our team of teaching artists will visit your school each day for one week leading your students in the discovery of classic and contemporary plays through the process of rehearsal and performance. The team can teach all day for numerous classes in various disciplines or for an abbreviated day of fewer classes.

For students approaching these texts for the first or repeated times, Rep on the Road introduces and immerses young scholars and performers in the process and skills used to make the words and the literary terms they study in class come to life.  This workshop is an ideal way to enliven and enhance a Literature, Arts, Speech, English, History, or Drama class.  We can customize the program content based on what you are exploring in any class or discipline or you can choose from the texts we have prepared.  Daily schedules correspond to teachers’ schedules within each school—whether on block or regular schedule (including daily planning time).

NOTE: Each residency is custom designed with educators to meet students’ needs on a school-specific basis and includes 1-2 advance planning sessions.

Let the learning continue after the curtain goes down. We are offering you the opportunity   to have a member of the Education staff lead a post-show discussion in your classroom after attending a student matinee performance at the Rep. This guided discussion will enable students to delve deeper into the context and themes of the play, giving them a chance for their thoughts and opinions to be heard.  Engaging and collaborative, this discussion encourages students to utilize higher levels of thinking to connect the central issues in the play to their own lives.

     Location: Your school

Availability: All season, as scheduled, after attending a student matinee performance.

    Length: 45 minutes

    Maximum number of students: 40

Fee: Free with the purchase of tickets to a student matinee.
