Labeled “Sassy, ingeniously staged and deeply affecting” by the New York Times this is a new adaptation of Mark Twain’s American literary narrative The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by acclaimed playwright Laura Eason and veteran director Jeremy Cohen. Together they have created a work that is full of imagination and fresh theatrical style. Growing up in a small Missouri town on the banks of the Mississippi River, young Tom spends his days making mischief, avoiding school and famously tricking others into doing his chores. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a classic coming-of-age story that will fire the imaginations of young and old alike.

Just like Tom Sawyer himself, kids can partake in a bit of adventure as they learn to battle pirates while searching for clues that lead to buried treasure! Appropriate for kids aged 6 to 12, the Tom Sawyer Treasure Hunt begins at 1pm and is included with your purchase of one adult chaperone ticket and a specially priced $10.00 children’s ticket.  After the treasure hunt has ended, enjoy the final performance of the Mark Twain classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in the Spencer Theatre one last time. It’s a surefire afternoon of interactive theatrical fun! We hope to see you there!

TOMMY RAPLEY (Fight/Movement Director) most recent work includesThe Adventures of Tom Sawyer at Hartford Stage and Actors Theatre of Louisville. He is a proud company member with The House Theatre of Chicago (www.thehousetheatre.com), where he has choreographed 20 world-premiere productions, earning four Jeff Award nominations and two Jeff Awards for Outstanding Choreography (Cave with Man and The Sparrow). Directorial work includes The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz, Hope Springs Infernal, Ellen Under Glass, The Nutcracker (which premiered at the Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre in 2007) and All the Fame of Lofty Deeds at The House Theatre of Chicago. Rapley has choreographed for other theatrical institutions, including Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Second City, American Theatre Company, The Hypocrites, Chicago Children’s Theatre and Bailiwick Chicago, where he received a 2006 After Dark Award for Outstanding Choreography for original dance-opera DORIAN. He has been a professional dancer with Ballet Memphis and The Joffrey Ballet. He received a BFA in dance performance from Southern Methodist University.


STEPHANIE YANKWITT (Casting) has been working as a producer/director/casting associate since arriving in New York in 2001. As a director and assistant director, Yankwitt’s work includes November (Joe Mantello, director); The Receptionist (Joe Mantello, director); Letters to the End of the World (Anton Dudley, writer); This Is a Cowboy Poem My Daddy Taught Me (Katie Bender, writer); All That I Will Ever Be (New York Theatre Workshop, Jo Bonney, director); Brutality of Fact (Urban Stages Theater) and Stephen Guirgis’ Our Lady of 121st Street. Producing credits include John Patrick Shanley’s Dirty Story and Our Lady of 121st Street (both with LAByrinth Theater Company). Yankwitt has produced with LAByrinth Theater Company, The Cardinal Group and MCC Theater. In addition to commercial casting credits, Broadway casting credits include Glengarry Glen Ross, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me and Three Days of Rain. HARTFORD STAGE, located in Harford, Connecticut, is one of the leading resident theatres in the United States, known internationally for entertaining and enlightening audiences with a wide range of the vest of world drama, from classics to provocative new plays and musicals and neglected works from the past. ERIC ROSEN (Artistic Director) is a nationally recognized playwright, director and producer and the fourth artistic director in the 45-year history of Kansas City Repertory Theatre. He is also co-founder and former artistic director of Chicago’s acclaimed About Face Theatre, where he developed nearly 30 world premieres in his thirteen seasons there. Rep credits include direction of Metamorphoses (also Australia and regional tour) and The Trip to Bountiful prior to his appointment, and direction of Clay (prior to NY premiere at Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3, winner of Chicago’s Jefferson Award and nominee for the Drama Desk Award in NY); Winesburg, Ohio (for which he also wrote book and lyrics, winner of the Jeff Award for Best New Work and Philadelphia’s Barrymore Award for Best Musical); the world premiere of A Christmas Story, The Musical! (transfer to 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle); the world premiere of Venice, a new musical he co-wrote with Matt Sax (co-production with CTG in Los Angeles, Fall of 2010; currently in development for a NY premiere in 2012, named Best Musical of the Year in TIME magazine) and the acclaimed hits Cabaret and August: Osage County. Other plays include Dream Boy (Jeff Award for best direction and production, produced nationally) and Wedding Play (Jeff nomination for best new work, produced at Steppenwolf), Dancer from the Dance, Whitman and Undone (About Face). Other directing credits include the world premieres of M. Proust by Mary Zimmerman (Jeff nomination for best new play) and Theater District (Jeff Award for best new play), and the Chicago premiere of Take Me Out, all in About Face/Steppenwolf co-productions. Regional credits include work at Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles; Steppenwolf, the Goodman, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, and Lookingglass Theatre in Chicago; the Prince Music Theatre; Hartford Stage; Cincinnati Playhouse; Repertory Theatre of St. Louis; 7 Stages in Atlanta; and workshops at the Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, the O’Neill, and Sundance Theatre Lab. Rosen produced the pre-NY premiere of Doug Wright’s play I Am My Own Wife, winner of the Tony Award for best play and the Pulitzer Prize; Eleven Rooms of Proust created by Mary Zimmerman; and was dramaturg for Frank Galati and Stephen Flaherty’s Loving Repeating at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Moisés Kaufman's One Arm at Steppenwolf Theatre and Kaufman’s Tony nominated 33 Variations at Sundance Theatre Lab. Rosen earned his Ph.D. in performance studies from Northwestern University, and held a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)/Theatre Communication Group (TCG) Career Development Fellowship for Directors. He has twice served as a theatre panelist for the NEA and has participated in the TCG/Pew Charitable Trusts’ National Theatre Artists Residency Program. Rosen has taught at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Brooklyn College and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, his alma mater.
