Student Matinee Series
Theatre is an extraordinary experience, an art form unlike any other. Our Student Matinees Series is an affordable way for area students to experience professional theatre performances. In addition to seeing a professional theatre production, students learn more about the performance and production via post-show discussions with the actors and technical crew that immediately follow all matinees. All student matinees begin at 10:00 a.m., with the exception of A Christmas Carol matinees, which begin at 10:30 a.m.
Our Student Matinees meet the following standards:
Missouri: CA 2, 5-7; FA 1- 5; SS 5; 6
Kansas: History; Literature Genre; Theatre 5, 6; Listening, Viewing, Speaking 1, 2, 3, 4
National: Theatre 6, 7, 8
Each play, depending on its themes, content and genre, meets various other standards of each state’s curriculum.

Who doesn’t like a bit of Christmas cheer during the holidays? Join us for this Kansas City family holiday tradition, a ripping good telling of the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the curmudgeonly businessman who requires the intervention of a few spectral guides to understand the true meaning of Christmas and life. Complete with lively musical numbers, ornate costuming, and dashing stagecraft, Dickens' timeless tale of hope and redemption continues to remind us of what's really worth celebrating.
Themes and Content: British literature; Victorian society and culture; an individual’s responsibility to society; generosity and celebration of life; personal growth and discovery; compassion and redemption; literature adapted for the stage. Genre: drama.
