Harriet Jacobs
Oct 22nd - Nov 21st, 2010
Copaken Stage
Written by Lydia Diamond
Directed by Jessica Thebus
Inspired by Jacob's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl
Harriet Jacobs is adapted from Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, one of the most important books in the history of the Abolitionist Movement. After nearly seven years hiding in a tiny garret above her grandmother’s home, Harriet Ann Jacobs secretly boarded a boat and escaped to New York and, eventually, freedom. The young slave woman’s remarkable story of triumph over the bitterest oppression will be the most inspirational show of the season!
